If you are in KC, you should really think about checking the Kansas City Zoo down in Swope Park. It has been a work in progress for decades but it is worth the time you will spend.
The city and the government has poured alot of money into the zoo to make it not just a place to study animals but a great place for people to come and learn about the animals too. They have about 1,300 animals currently. I think that is alot.
Tickets are currently $15 a day. If you are visiting and using the Kansas City bus system (KCATA), the #108 Indiana stops right at the front gate for you.
I always love my time at the zoo
It started way back in 1909 but I didn’t make it there until the mid-1980’s for practical reasons (I wasn’t born) and I have been there since a few dozen times. I have watch them really make the place nice over the years. It is kinda sad that the Great Ape House is no longer there.
I try and get there once a year now just to spend the day and take some pictures. It is worth the time and the money to check out. It is considered one of the best zoos in America.
Kansas City Zoo and the basics
Well, as I said the cost is $15 per person for a day pass. If you are a resident of the Zoological District, you get it for half off and student on a field trip pay $6.
They open the gates at 8am in the morning every morning and close them at 4pm throughout the week. On the weekends, they stay open until 5pm.
One other cool things about the Kansas City Zoo is they are cool with you bringing a small cooler for a picnic. The key here is a small. You are going to the zoo, not the lake!
